Last December, in Gimhae, South Gyeongsang Province, we received a report claiming that an abandoned dog farm was still holding dogs. The source reported that there were approximately six dogs that were being neglected and had been left without food or water in the harsh winter.

The dog farm was shut down, but the dogs are still there.

On arriving at the scene, there was a cage inside which six dogs barked in alarm at the strangers, then resorted to low whines that protested their hunger. They were lying limp on the ground, an empty food bowl in front of them. It was immediately apparent that there was a problem with their health.

Three of the six dogs could be taken to a shelter in Busan, but the rest could not. The remaining dogs could not be left in the cages, so we rescued them. The dogs offered no resistance as they were taken out of the cages.

“Don’t worry, you’re going to be warm and safe now.” the rescue team reassured the dogs, and gave them new names to signal their new beginning. The chihuahua was named Yibbeun, the black dog Ggamsang, and the Jindo, who couldn’t open one eye, Jinsoon.

Upon examination, all were suffering from malnutrition, were underweight, and had heartworms. Yibbeun’s alveolar bone was inflamed and the teeth had to be removed for proper treatment.

Yibbeun loves people and food very much. Since she’d been deprived of food for a long time before being rescued, she likes to safeguard her snacks and food.

Yibbeun is gradually adjusting to life outside the dog farm, and gets along with her doggie friends very well. She is a very eager and playful dog, but she also likes to demand all the attention, which is very endearing.

Please Note

Depending on the breed, the size, and its environment the lifespan of a dog may vary from 12 to 16 years. Yibbeun is still growing, so we ask you to consider all these aspects if you wish to adopt her.
