In August 2009—one of the hottest months in Korea—we received a report that there was a dog tied up in the sun outside a house. When we saw the dog, we saw that the dog was suffering and persuaded the owner to give up the dog. The owner was an alcoholic and hadn’t fed or watered the dog for several days.

We took the dog to the vet and were told that the dog was close to death due to malnutrition and dehydration. The dog’s neck had also been scalded due to the chain collar which had been heated by the sun. Fortunately, it was not severe.

Biel is timid but friendly to the staff working at the center.
