Cheonan Rescue Dogs Leaving for New Lives in Japan

Cheonan Rescue Dogs Leaving for New Lives in Japan - Playground

In July of 2019, we started shutting down the now infamous dog slaughterhouse in Cheonan. A lot of volunteers came to help, and we were able foster and adopt the rescue dogs out so they could begin new lives. Our work got noticed overseas, and we received a lot of aid from international organizations.

One organization from Japan expressed interest in helping with the rescue dogs from the start. They came to visit and let us know that they would adopt some of them.

Since Japan’s regulations for admitting dogs into the country is quite strict compared to other nations, we began preparing the dogs for adoption to Japan in the fall of 2019.

Their decision to take in rescue dogs from Korea was not an easy one, by any means. Japan also has stray and abandoned animals to care for, and they have big issues with wild and feral dogs. Nevertheless, they chose to help get the surviving dogs out of the horrific Cheonan Slaughterhouse environment by adopting them.

Rescue Dogs’ New Home

Earlier this month, our staff visited the shelter in Japan where the dogs will soon be heading.

The shelter had 30 or so dogs and cats. It also has a large open area where the dogs can run around and play freely. They will set up new buildings for the incoming dogs this Spring.

We would like to sincerely thank them for helping us and offering the rescue dogs safe new lives.

We need you!

We rely entirely on people like you. Help us get more animals adopted by becoming a regular donor.
