Joining Forces with Asiana for Overseas Adoption

We ally with Asiana Airlines to attract more flight volunteers. Special privileges, such as free additional baggage checks and use of the Asiana lounge, will be offered.

On September 20th, CARE and Asiana Airlines signed an MOU regarding the transporting of internationally adopted dogs from Incheon International Airport. Asiana flights bound for the United States (New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago, and Hawaii) will offer exclusive check-in counters, access to the business class lounge, and free additional baggage for CARE’s flight volunteers.

Because big dogs are not popular in Korea, they are often adopted overseas. This was one of the driving forces behind the CARE-Asiana alliance. America has a different attitude towards big dogs, and the big dogs we rescue are often adopted by US families. This new alliance with Asiana Airlines will encourage more foreign adoption by making it easier for flight volunteers to transport dogs.

We are working with DoVE (Dogs of Violence Exposed) Project for adoptions to the United States, and with Free Korean Dogs for adoptions to Canada. By taking advantage of these organizations’ expertise in overseas adoptions, we can find the best forever homes for our rescues.

CARE President, So-yeon Park stated, “We are very glad to join forces with Asiana Airlines, which has long shown interest in animals. Adoption rates of dogs with disabilities and big dogs are very low in Korea, and we need to change this culture and perception of dogs. Flight volunteers are essentially providing our rescues a second chance, and we hope there will be more interest in becoming a flight volunteer.”

In July, Asiana Airlines was commended for increasing its regulations on maximum pet weight to 7 kg in cabins and 45 kg as cargo. The airline also assisted with the specialized transportation requirements of Seoul Grand Park’s Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins, ‘Geumdeungi’ and ‘Daepo’, from Incheon to Jeju in May 2017.
