This was the slogan on one of CARE’s signs in a protest against selling cruelly-made ostrich leather bags.
On May 25, 2016, CARE organized a joint protest with PETA Asia against the sale of Prada’s Italian ostrich bags. Members of the animal rights group CARE and PETA held signs in a silent protest in front of a Prada store in Cheongdam-dong, Seoul, South Korea. The signs contained protests like “Prada: Accessories to Murder” and reminders to “Shop Vegan.”
The silent protest was prompted by uncovered footage of brutal slaughtering and cruel practices at major South African ostrich slaughterhouses. To create a bumpy textured leather, a young ostrich will undergo many cruel treatments such as live plucking, upside-down hanging, and electric shock. One of the most brutal acts is having the ostrich’s neck sliced open while still alive and left to bleed out in front of other ostriches. These companies supply leather to major luxury brands such as Prada, Louis Vuitton, and Hermes and is used in products from handbags to sofas and boots.
Instead of supporting the brutal practices of leather, consider buying cruelty-free products.
